Share Our Skills
Share Our Skills (SOS) volunteers make about 700 quilts each year which are given to charity. Members are encouraged to donate time, fabric, batting, completed tops and quilts. SOS kits made up of donated coordinating fabric which may be picked up at the meetings and returned when completed.
SOS Sew Day meets the third Wednesday of every month from 9:30 to 4:00 at Knights of Columbus located at 1620 E Avenue NE, Cedar Rapids. Bring your machine if you would like to sew, We have scissors, needles and Knit Cro Sheen to tie the quilts. Also bring a dish to share for lunch at noon. On average, 20 ladies attend to help with the SOS Charity quilts. Quilts are also tied between the morning and evening monthly meetings. In 2008, year of the flood, over 1,200 were donated to flood victims. SOS also donates to several benefits during the year. SOS is an excellent opportunity to test a new quilt block prior to purchasing fabric and other quilting supplies.
