CATEGORY DESCRIPTIONS
Please read the descriptions carefully. It is the entrant’s responsibility to select the appropriate category. Quilts that do not meet the category guidelines will be judged, but may not be eligible for ribbon consideration.
Small Bed Quilts: Used on a bed or crib; less than 80” wide and proportional in length.
Large Bed Quilts: Used on a bed; 80” and wider and proportional in length.
Juniors: Any quilter who is under 18 as of May 16, 2025. The Junior Quilter must have constructed the quilt themselves with only direction from an adult. The Junior Quilter is not required to do the quilting.
Miniature: Miniature quilts have all aspects of the quilt reduced in scale from a full-sized quilt. Maximum size is 24” x 24”. All techniques, all makers.
Modern: Quilt must reflect some of the following characteristics: Asymmetry of design, improvisational piecing, bold colors , on-trend color combinations, graphic prints, use of negative space, unconventional block structures, or reinterpreted tradi-tional blocks. Quilting designs should reiterate modern theme. All sizes, techniques, and makers allowed.
Scrap Quilts: Quilt top must incorporate at least 50 different fabrics. Any size, any technique.
Wall Quilts: Quilts that are intended to be hung for visual impact. Patterns and kits are allowed.
Art Quilts: Must be a work of original design reflecting innovative construction and design techniques, themes, or subject matter. Absolutely no patterns or kits allowed. Cannot be inspired by an existing pattern.
Clothing/ Accessories: Bags, clothing, pillows, dolls, mug rugs, candle mats, etc.
Non-Judged Presidents Challenge: Quilts that meet the requirements for the President’s Challenge to hang in the display at the show. Entries will not be judged.
Non-Judged Quilt Show Chair Challenge: Quilts that meet the requirements for the Quilt Show Chairs’ challenge to hang in the display at the show. Entries will not be judged.

- Abstract Art Quilt: Abstract composition - a non-identifiable subject that stresses mostly color, line, and shape.
- Naturescape Art Quilt: A quilt that reflects the scenery found in nature, such as land, mountains, forests, gardens, and deserts. Animals and humans may be included but should not be the main focus of the piece.
- Pictorial Art Quilt: A quilt that represents a recognizable image of a person, place, or thing.
