I was born and raised in Centerville, in southern Iowa. I went to Grinnell College for a BA in biology, followed by an MS in zoology at Michigan State University. I met my husband there, and we lived in Norman, OK for 3 years where he finished his PhD. We moved to Cedar Rapids where he taught biology at Coe College until he retired.
I attended the University of Iowa for a MA in library and information science, and then worked at the UI Health Sciences Library for 8 years. We have two children, both of whom are now living in Wisconsin.
I have been a member of EIHQ for over 25 years and worked at Connie’s Quilt Shop in Marion, IA for about 15 years, until retirement.
Many of my quilts have been entered in EIHQ shows and have won various ribbons, but my biggest thrill was having my quilt, “Stars for a New Day,” awarded the ribbons for Best of Show and Best Piecing in the EIHQ 2016 quilt show. It was quilted by Jennifer McRae. Sharon Sandford

My mom gave me my first sewing machine around the time my daughter was born. I started making curtains and other things for her nursery. After about a month of home dec sewing I decided I should make a quilt. My first quilt was just a diamond layout of 8 inch squares, but I was hooked! Fourteen years later, I have three kids, and I've made dozens of quilts. I also do longarm quiling as a business, so I get to work with beautiful quilts every day. Quilt shows are probably my favorite part of quilting because they are so inspiring. Last year, I had a quilt juried into Quilt Festival in Houston, TX. I made the trip with my mother-in-law and seeing my quilt hung amidst so much talent was the high point of my quilting journey so far! Megan Bracy
