Welcome to the East Iowa Heirloom Quilters (EIHQ) website.  We invite you, as a member or guest to enjoy your visit.  Please use this site as a source of information about our Guild and its programs and activities, as well as a resource for information about quilting activities in and around the Cedar Rapids/Marion area.        Meeting Times and Location  Guild meetings are the fourth Monday of every month at 9 am and 7 pm, except October and December.  The annual meeting is held the fourth Monday in October at 6 pm.  There is no meeting in December.  Meetings are held at the American Legion Building at 625 31st Street in Marion.   For Mapquest directions, please click here.    SNOW POLICY--If the Cedar Rapids Community Schools are closed the day of a guild meeting, the guild meeting is also cancelled.   Just remember:   NO SCHOOL;  NO GUILD METING       How to Join Membership is open to anyone interested in quilting. The Guild year runs from October 1 to September 31. Dues are $30.00 per year payable in September.  Guests are always welcome! After one visit, guests are requested to become guild members. February 27, 2012 Guild Meeting Ellen Anne Eddy (Indiana)   9 am Lecture:   COLOR COOKBOOK APPROACH A slide lecture offering a gentle and personal approach to color uses.   We'll discuss color choices from dye-pot to fabric selection to thread usage.   We'll also examine the effects top name quilters get through their color choices, and show you how to personalize color formulas to work for you.  Recommended for anyone wanting to expand their color vocabulary in their work.   7 pm Lecture:  VISUAL PATH We explore the elements of design to make nature quilts that move and that move you.  The design concepts are easy to understand and so much fun!    You'll see how to build a path through your quilt that feeds the eye and the soul.   The lecture focuses on taking geometric forms, translating them to organic shapes and creating nature quilts that live, move and breathe.   Workshop (1-4pm):  LANDSCAPE DESIGN (photo credit:  Ellen Anne Eddy)     You'll build fantastic landscapes in this class.  We all drool over the amazing brocades, tulles, organzas, hand-dyed cottons and lame's.  The question is, how do you use them?  In this class we'll use non-sewing applique to create the illusions of smoke, mist, water and fire; to add flora and fauna in fabrics you've only dreamed of using.   3 hour design-oriented class.   Workshop cost:  $40.00 (does not include supplies).  Note:  Kit is available for $17.  Please click here for supply list.   Click here to go to Ellen Anne Eddy's Website; or http://www.ellenanneeddy.com           For more information on 2012 Lectures and Workshops, please click here.       STASH BUSTING UFO CHALLENGE 2012  See Members Only section for a list of the rules and forms.
