All workshops will be held at the American Legion, 625 31st Street, Marion, Iowa, from 1-4 pm unless noted. The class fee for each workshop is next to the speaker name. The fee does not include supplies. To sign up for a workshop, complete the workshop registration form at the bottom of this page and mail to address on form. February 27, 2017 Cindy Salat; $15/20 person maximum Fun With Free Motion Quilting
Really….! Let’s just have fun. Cindy will show you some easy free motion techniques. NO TEMPLATES REQUIRED. Cindy will share with you what works for her and you can then try it and wee what you think. You will go over various sized border patterns, fill, and feathers. This will be a “hands on” (first whiteboard and then try it on your machine). Fee will be donated back to the guild.
March 27, 2017 Stephanie Soebbing; $30 Workshop: Wildflower Meadow (See Image in Header) Wildflower Meadow- a lovely Spring quilt - 60 x 60 inches..... pattern is included in the class fee ... this is a great opportunity to use some fabric you have on hand. We will be working with the square method of making flying geese. There is a cutting list on the website- so come prepared to sew and have fun !

Learn how to make a beautiful art quilt from your scrap pile. If any of you are like Marilyn, you hate to throw out those scraps...well now you don't have to.....Use them and create some beauty! Everyone should choose a photo that they would like to re-create in fabric.
May 22, 2017 Ami Simms; $30/25 person maximum Workshop: Freedom to Feather Tired of making do with commercial quilting templates? Take this half-day workshop and release your Inner Feather. Learn to make your own beautiful and unique feathers to compliment any block area. We'll start with "traditional" and grow in whatever direction you wish. No drawing experience necessary. Students share their work in class with each other, under an assumed name if desired. Lots of fun even for the feather impaired.
Tuesday, May 23, 2017 (all day workshop) at the American Legion Ami Smms; $35/25 person maximum Workshop: Beautiful Basic Bindings for Beginners Learn how to make quilt bindings that are straight, even, fully-padded, and sharp at the corners. These are applied bindings---not backings brought around to the front---stitched to the quilt by machine, then folded over the edge of the quilt and secured by hand. In class you'll bind three mini-quilts you prepare at home, each with a different width binding. Practice with bias and crosscut bindings, striped and solid fabric, and learn how to insert a "flange" to add pizzazz to the final edge of any quilt.

Layer diamonds on triangles for simple square blocks.
